To some it's just
another day.
But it means much more to me.
For on this day we shed the yoke of tyranny,
And declared our nation to be free.
It's been more than
ten score years since then,
But our will has wavered not
In upholding those ideals and dreams
For which our brave forefathers fought.
We've confronted
many enemies
That would change the way we live.
And we've gone to fight on foreign soil
Knowing we had but just one life to give.
Though many sons and
daughters fell,
Till now they have not died in vain.
Despite the tests and challenges through the years,
Our resolve and our liberty still remain.
Our traditions and
our heritage are very precious things,
And have been preserved through trial and pain.
These treasures must be guarded jealously;
These must be protected, these we must sustain.
Today we face new
threats and foes.
From afar and, sadly, at our own back door.
We must be ever vigilant, prepared to meet the call
To defend our cherished freedoms for now and ever more.
So this day We're
glad to be Americans,
Because Old Glory still flies high.
We salute her with pride and tear filled eyes;
For it's our Independence Day, this Fourth Day in July.
