Second St. Patrick's Day Poem The Shamrock
THE WEARING OF THE GREEN
That happy day is coming nigh,
When we will all be seen
. So thankful to be Irish born
And proudly wearing green.
Our shamrocks and shillelaghs
Will be brought out in force.
A toast to Erin we will drink,
With good green beer, of course.
We'll have parades and music,
And all will sing with joy
. Great songs like old "Mother Machree".
And that darlin' "Danny Boy".
Will you please stand up beside us
And sing loudly just the same?
For today the whole world's Irish.
Matters not from whence you came.
Begorrah! It's a day for play,
For dancing and for fun.
But the leprechauns do truly hope
That clouds will hide the sun.
They pray for rainy days because
It's been so long foretold:
At Rainbow's End you're sure to find
A pot.. chock full of gold!
Oh! If I could only go there,
For at least a little while.
To that tiny bit of heaven
That they call The Emerald Isle
And if I were king for just a day
, I'd sit upon my throne;
And I'd order all my subjects
To kiss the Blarney Stone.
St Patrick will be watching,
From up there high above
And surely he'll be wishing
That brotherhood and love
Would reach out and embrace us,
Yes, each and every one.
For when Irish Eyes are smiling,
Sure... there is no setting sun.
