JUST ONE OR TWO

Can they maybe have just one or two?
That's all they really want to ask.
And surely if you give it thought,
You'll find it's not too hard a task.

The years so swiftly pass on by.
You yearn to strike out on your own.
And though they know that day will come.
They'll not always want to be alone.

So while you're there still in the nest,
And later when you've spread your wings.
Remember...that for you, they want the best;
And in return, they want just little things.

Who wants these little things you ask?
Poppa - who swung you to and fro,
Momma - who held you to her breast,
Grandma and Grandpa - who spoiled you so.

What are these things they're asking for?
Will they cost a lot, or cause much pain?
They cost not a cent, and are simply done.
But they're needed so, as the rose needs rain.

Yes, all they want is one or two.
But they'll take all there is to find.
Some time for talk.. a note.. a smile,
A hug.. a kiss... and a word that's kind.
