POETICAL EXPRESSION

"One man's meat is another man's poison".
That phrase so often has been read.
"Treasure for one is trash for another".
How many times have those words been said?

As it is with these and other things,
So must it also be with poetry.
The poet's ode to him is a masterpiece;
The reader says: "It makes no sense to me".

The poet's ideas are so clear to him.
The right words are oft times hard to find.
He has a message to send, a tale to tell.
But will the reader know what was on his mind?

Be it narrative, or lyric, sonnet or prose.
Flowing words--rhyming, or short phrases--terse.
Who's to say if it's good?, who can say that it's bad?
As the old poet said: "It could be verse!".

It seems that poetry, like beauty,
Dwells but in the beholder's eye.
And all the world cannot be pleased,
No matter how hard you try.

But the bard, undaunted, will bend to the task.
In hopes that someone, will perhaps, someday,
Read that epic great that he so proudly wrote,
And shout: "Here's one who knew just what to say".
