THE SAD TALE OF OLD GEORGE FRY

On a cold winter's day as we walked through the town,
My son pointed and said: "Another store has closed down."
I said: "That store once belonged to Old George Fry,
Who would shout: "Me...Advertize? Why should I?".

The money I'd spend on ads and TV,
Could buy more merchandise, don't you see?
And the more goods sold, the more profit is made.
I have no need to advertize, I know my trade."

So time went by and George sat in his store.
Waiting to sell, so he could buy more.
But alas and alack, no customers came.
Day in and day out it was always the same.

"My product is good and my prices are fair,
So where are the people?", cried out George in despair.
Time, tide and landlords for no man will wait.
The rent must be paid, don't you dare pay it late.
Six months of this and George let out a howl:
"Enough is enough", and he threw in the towel.

Sometime later a friend that George met on the street,
Said to him: "Are you ill? You sure do look beat.
As for me, I feel great. I just got a raise.
The nose to the grindstone certainly pays.

I just bought some things that I've needed for years.
We can finally buy them without shedding tears.
I bought one of these, my wife bought two of those.
What?? You were in business? When did you close?
Had I but known from you I'd have bought.
I say, did you advertize?.... no, I guess not".

That's just one sad story, I've heard many before.
How many fail? Is it two or three out of four?
They thought their good name was all they would need.
Despite their hoping and toiling, they didn't succeed.
They closed down their dream, they sighed, they cried.
Would this story be different, if George had advertized?
