MEMORIES OF VIETNAM

WHO ARE THESE MEN?

Who are these men?
Their eyes reflect both doubt and fear.
They face a foe...unseen, unknown.
What futile cause has brought them here?

Do you know this man?
Look at his bandaged head.
Dame Fortune smiled on him,
But two good friends are dead.

The medals pinned upon his chest
Show that he bravely did his part.
For deeds he wears a Star of Bronze,
For wounds he wears a Purple Heart.

Look at this Boat. It is Iron Clad
A pleasure craft it's not.
The crew must seek and find the foe,
And then the battle will be fought.

The Chinook is like a flying train.
It moves great loads with speed.
No matter where they send us,
It brings us all we ever need.

Look at this crew of fine young men.
Each one of them a Mother's son.
They rest and calmly wait for word.
It seems their job is never done.

It hovers in the sky above
It's like a wasp in flight.
It sees what goes on down below,
It tells us when and where to fight.

Is this just a quiet village?
He thinks: "Maybe, Maybe not."
But best be on your guard my friend,
For things could, very soon, get hot.

Who are these Men of Medicine
That swoop down from the sky?
Like Healing Angels from above,
They fly... to where the wounded lie.

Look at these men, who in this strange land,
Are soon to meet their destiny.
Look closely now...perhaps you'll see.
One could be you, one might be me.

Who are these men sent here to fight,
At their leaders' beck and call?
Americans all, they served with pride,
And all gave some, but some gave all.
