FIFTY YEARS
Fifty years have come and gone,
And yet it seems like only yesterday,
That we knelt and said those words: "I do",
Then joined hands and left to make our way.
Fifty years of Springtimes, lush and green;
Each year we would see the earth renew.
We saw Mother Nature's garden grow,
Just as our love did, strong and true.
For fifty years we felt the heat
Of that bright and glorious Summer Sun.
Our love was kindled to a burning flame,
And our two hearts merged and beat as one.
For fifty years we watched, in wonderment,
As Autumn leaves turned to gold and fell,
And with each early setting sun, we knew...
Our days would soon be getting short as well.
Fifty years of Winters, harsh and cold,
But we had our love to keep us warm.
We braved the freezing rain and biting snow,
Together, always, arm in arm.
Today we pause, reflect, and give our thanks,
For all the wondrous years we've had;
For the joy we felt when days were good,
For the strength to cope when they were bad.
Friends and family meet with us this day,
And all are welcome at our door.
They clasp our hands and wish us well,
As they have so many times before.
So swiftly have our seasons flown!
We hope and pray for a few years more.
Father Time has left his telltale mark,
And hair once full and dark has thinned to gray.
But thank God we're here to celebrate,
On this... Our Golden Wedding Day.
